Introduction Mathematics, ancient yet constantly updated, is an increasingly important field of study. From the time of Pythagoras and Plato, humankind has found mathematics to be the most efficient method for training the skills of analysis, thought, and judgment. Moreover, with the advancement of human civilization, the natural and social sciences depended more and more on mathematics as their most important and fundamental research tool. The phenomena caused mathematics, once only a branch of natural science, to emerge independently, taking its place alongside the other sciences.
Teaching and Research The Applied Mathematics Department was established and began recruiting students in the 1991 academic year. To make Mathematics be applied in different professional fields, the courses are aimed at maintaining the balance between theory and practical application. Besides demanding excellence in academic work, the department particularly emphasizes the aspect of personality development and the advancement of communicative abilities.
Curriculum and Facilities Responding to the changing social tendency and meeting the needs of our students, the department plans to develop two groups of studies, which are financial analysis and information science. To provide the high-quality research and learning environment, two professional laboratories, under grants from the Ministry of Education and the University, have been set up as the computational financial lab and the scientific computation lab. By learning from laboratory experiments, students can not only obtain theoretical knowledge in the classroom, but also know how to apply Mathematics to their career in future.
Career Development --Further academic study: Students can apply for admission to graduate schools of various areas related to Mathematics. For examples, mathematics, engineering, management, economics, information science, statistic. In addition, they can switch to different areas like nuclear science, system science, mechanics etc. --Career: Students can get into various fields in statistics, management, analysis, computer programming...etc. For those who are interested in teaching, they can take appropriate credits to be qualified as elementary or high school teachers
